August – 12 Months of Origami

I’m just back from a beautiful adventure in Croatia!  Went to the Dubrovnik and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. Also got to get my game of thrones geek on and inspired by my recent trip decided to make origami dragons for August’s 12 months of origami!

Hahahaha one of my favourite game of thrones inspired phrases “I am not a princess, I am a khalessi!” Sorry to all those not watched or read game of thrones, i appreciated you maybe a little lost at this point.

The Dragons were relatively simple to make, having an initial box fold and then bird fold as the basis.  As in Game of Thrones had to make the 3 Dragons and here they are……..

My first attempt!

My three dragons!

Have you been doing any origami recently?? Have seen some super cute christmas ideas! Cant wait to try those

A Drawing Class……………………….Ruthrieston Temporary Studio

Yesterday I went to a drawing class held by the lovely Amber Robertson and Laura Reilly both local artists in Aberdeen.  The brief was come with an open mind and comfortable clothes!

My mind wasn’t sure what to expect which was part of the excitement in attending.  The class took the format of following a series of instructions one by one to encourage mark marking with materials.

The calm before drawing commenced!

Mark making using charcoal

We then moved onto mark marking without materials usinglarge sheets of paper, wow was great! Really enjoyed working with the paper, folding, crunching to make different effects.

Tea Time!

The last exercise was to try and express the feeling from afternoon on paper using any of the techniques we tried throughout the afternoon, was really interesting to see what kind of materials and techniques everyone gravitated towards.  Here is my creation!

It was a lovely group, some art graduates and others with art as more of a hobby, me included who was made to feel very welcome at the class and was a great friendly creative atmosphere.

The Ruthrieston Temporary Studio has been set up by two local greys graduates Kirsty and Amber and aims to provide a space for development for artists in the city.  They have events on for the rest of May and hopefully continuing!  Have a peek at their Facebook page for more information, so great to have an art venue in the city for developing artists.

December – 12 Months of Craft

I started 12 months of craft as a new years resolution in 2013 to try a new craft each month.  I may have got side tracked along the way, finishing the posts in Nov/Dec 2014 but Ive benefited greatly from trying new crafts and found some great crafty blogs and followers along the way!

So here it goes! For November 12 months of craft I made a Christmas Wreath.  With berries, holly, lilac flowers from our lovely winter garden in our new home, some careful thinning out of our Norman Fur and a copper sprayed foliage from Sainsburys I had all the ingredients to make my wreath!

This brings a end to my 12 months of craft! Although taking over the year its been a great project and opened by eyes to more creative ways of thinking.  Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas holidays and eats lots and lots, I can’t wait!

Bright Colours After Hours at Aberdeen Art Gallery

Last friday night I popped along to Aberdeen Art Gallery @AbdnArtMuseums for the closing of Kaffe Fassett exhibition.  There were bright colours everywhere and the gallery looked great with the soft colour lighting.  Add the music from blackledge falling, drinks from @Bosn_Bar and lots of crafty things to try = recipe for a good night!

Made a lovely origami envelope and popped a note describing anything colourful Id seen that night.  Then the note was placed near where I saw the colour with notice this on the envelope!  The volunteers who were all super helpful mentioned the notes would remain in the gallery for a couple of weeks, so if you go for a visit keep an eye out for them.

Colour manifesto! Board to say how you will make your life more colourful after the event, beside the board was information about letting your self go and not worrying what others will think.  For some reason to have a pink nose popped up in my head and so on the board it went!

Hahahaha and as true to my word been rocking out my pink nose tonight at home!

November 2013 – 12 months of craft – Paper Fan Bunting

My new years resolution in 2013 was to try a different craft each month, the last few months of the year whipped by and then I got the gardening bug for 2014!  A little later than planned but here is my next new craft = Paper Fan bunting!

Beautiful fan bunting used to decorate our motorhome on a recent holiday!

One of my new favourite craft blogs is = beautiful photography and craft ideas! A Subtle revelry is where I found the instructions for this beautiful fan bunting and wanted to share how I made mine xxxx

Started with some sugar paper and then drew Polka with marker on both sides

I then cut the larger piece into smaller squares and then folded each square accordion style!

Next folded the accordion paper in half and attachted the two centres

Lastly just made small holes in the top of the fan and threaded through some fine thread and fan bunting was ready!

Thanks A Subtle Revelry @asubtlereverly for sharing such lovely bunting!

Would love to hear if you have made paper bunting at home and how you got on.
